Twin Cities Marathon

MINNEAPOLIS -- The excitement of race weekend has always been part of the fun of running for Missy Puschinsky.

After finishing two Twin Cities Marathons, Missy this year couldn't wait do her third.

"I really started to love it," Puschinsky said. "It just felt great to accomplish something like that."

And it was even better with her family at the finish, especially Missy's dad, Sherwin.

"It was just great always having him there, and having him give me a hug when I was finished and telling me how proud he was of me," Puschinsky.

But just after Missy registered this spring, doctors found a baseball sized tumor in Sherwin's chest, then another on his adrenal gland. While Sherwin battled through chemo and radiation, Missy continued to run, balancing Sherwin's treatment and her training.

"Dad's philosophy was if you start something you finish it," Puschinsky said. "And you make a commitment and you follow through."

Missy kept recalling her dad's determination when after a fight of four months, Sherwin yesterday passed away. And though the race is Sunday, Missy decided she still wanted to run, telling her Dad she would do it for him.

"He cried because he was so proud," Puschinsky said. "And he was so happy that I was doing it for him."

Missy's family will still be at the finish. And, she says, her dad will be, too. Twin Cities Marathon
