ISLAMABAD: At least three people were killed and several others injured in an attack on a convoy of NATO tankers carrying fuel for international troops in Afghanistan, sources said.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik ordered inquiry of the incident.
Unknown attackers opened fire on the tankers late Sunday at DHA Phase II in capital city of Islamabad. The firing ignited blaze killing 10 to 12 people, eyewitnesses said.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has said three people were killed and four others injured in the attack. The injured were immediately transferred to hospital.
More than nine attackers pulled several people out of the oil tankers and pumped bullets into them, eyewitnesses said.
At least 27 fuel-carrying tankers were destroyed and 28 others were partially damaged.
Talking to ARY News SP Umar Hayat said that the tankers were stationed for carrying oil supplies for Nato forces in Afghanistan from a local oil refinery.
