Smart's emphatic exchange with $80 million man David Lee during the second quarter of Friday's win over Utah proved no one is above reproach - a message that had been fully communicated by Sunday. Smart Exchange
"I was in a position when I was younger and never playing (in New York), but the stars were getting away with murder," Lee said. "Guys at the end of the bench definitely see that. It's important that a coach coaches everyone the same way. "Being a high-priced guy and one of the leaders on this team, I would expect it no other way." Smart Exchange
Smart says he has a covenant with every player to coach in that manner, but, before going at Lee, his public spats had been only with reserves Rodney Carney, Dan Gadzuric and Brandan Wright. Smart Exchange "I didn't do it to prove a point or make a statement, but it did show the players that I coach everyone the same way when they're not doing what I need them to do," Smart said.
