SINGAPORE : What would you do if you were part of a hugely successful band that had just released an ultra popular album?
Bask in the fame?
Buy that villa you've always wanted?
For the members of English pop band Johnny Hates Jazz (JHJ), it was none of the above.
"We moved on to do other things," said vocalist Clark Datchler.
His candid yet succinct explanation put paid to all the rumours that internal conflicts were the cause of their split at the end of 1988, after the release of their double platinum album "Turn Back The Clock".

"I left the band because I wanted to do some solo work and Mike (bassist Mike Nocito) and Calvin (keyboardist/drummer Calvin Hayes) had some ideas about things they wanted to do as well," explained the JHJ front man when I caught up with him and Nocito on Thursday.

"There was a need for a bit of a break and of course, life happens, you meet someone, I had kids. That is true for Calvin as well. Mike got into producing for some notable people."

"I think we never really deep down felt that we split up. We just parted ways for awhile and this seemed to be the right time to get back together and work on a new album."
