Nfl Picks Week 5

“I didn’t even talk to Randy on the plane,” New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick said, in an attempt to refute a report that said Randy Moss had refused to speak to Belichick on the team’s flight from Miami.

“There was never any incident or discipline problem with Randy … not in four years,” Belichick continued at his New England news conference, really warming to the notion of cognitive dissonance. He would have followed this with something about up being down and day being night, but wouldn’t you know it, Bill ran out of time.

Randy Moss, meanwhile, always runs out of time. He spent a few years on something approaching his best behaviour in New England, and then this week the division-leading Patriots traded one of the most dangerous receivers in football for a third-round pick, four weeks into the season.

As Moss put it in his Minnesota news conference Thursday, “I got traded here for a reason I still don’t know to this day.”

So what went wrong? Well, the notoriously sulky Moss complained about his contract after a Week 1 win. Maybe that was it. “It certainly wasn’t about contract and money,” said Belichick, before claiming he was not, in fact, standing in front of the media at all.

Either way, Moss is now headed back to Minnesota, where everything is far less dramati … oh, wait. No, sorry, Minnesota’s going out of its midwestern mind right now. Not only was Moss traded on the five-year anniversary of the Vikings’ infamous sex boat episode — don’t look it up on the Internet, kids — but Thursday was the day that alleged pictures of Brett Favre’s, er, personal sex boat equipment, along with voicemails sent to a sideline reporter when he was with the Jets, were released onto the Internet.
